What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) administration is a treatment performed to amplify the natural growth factors in your body to support existing tissue and stimulate new tissue. When the PRP is injected into targeted areas of the skin, it acts as a matrix that promotes your own collagen to grow and regenerate tissue as well as boosts the skin’s own repair process. This repair process results in smoother, firmer skin, less visible scarring, and improved skin tone.

This treatment can be used to improve the appearance of the skin, including:

  • Wound healing and scar refinement.
  • Pigmentation improvement
  • Crinkling skin around and under the eyes.
  • Jawline improvement.
  • Neck tone enhancement.
  • Chest and decolletage.
  • Back of hands and arms.
  • Full facial treatment.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatment

Platelet-rich plasma is a multistep process that involves retrieval of your own blood, with extraction of the plasma portion of it which contains platelets and growth factors.  Subsequently, the plasma portion is injected into the skin.

After the injections are complete, any residual, less concentrated plasma may be applied to the surface of your skin.  A microneedling pen that is comprised of sterile needle tips needle may be used to create controlled micro-channels in your skin. This creates tissue injury which further encourages the PRP to stimulate tissue repair and growth.

The process results in more radiant, hydrated skin tissue with subtle, enhanced volume.

Who is a Good Candidate for Platelet-Rich Plasma?

If you are an individual who is looking to rejuvenate your skin with use of your body’s own material, you may benefit from platelet-rich plasma treatments.  For those seeking a boost in skin hydration and radiance as well as texture improvement, microneedling with PRP is an enhanced approach.  A consultation with the clinical team is the best way to determine candidacy, and the best approach for you.

What to Expect After Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatment?

Mild swelling and redness may occur following treatment, and generally fades within 1-3 days. Sometimes, there may be some bruising which generally resolves within a week. The downtime with this procedure is generally minimal.

The goal of PRP skin rejuvenation therapy is to improve skin texture and tone and hydration, decrease the appearance of scarring, and soften the appearance of lines and pores.  A minimum of three treatment sessions are generally recommended spaced 1-2 months apart, with the best results generally achieved after 3-6 treatments within a 3-6-month timespan. We also recommend maintenance treatments 2-3 times a year going forward to keep your great results.
