WHAT IS BOTOX®/DYSPORT®/XEOMIN®/NUCEIVA®?

Every day we make many facial expressions, all of which require the movement of facial muscles. Over time, repeated use of these facial muscles can lead to lines and wrinkles.  Over a lot of time, the wrinkles form permanent grooves in our skin.  Neuromodulators like BOTOX®, Dysport®, Xeomin® and Nuceiva® are injectable treatments that temporarily reduce fine facial lines and wrinkles. They are formulated with onabotulinumtoxin type A; abobotulinumtoxin A; incobotulinumtoxin A; prabotulinumtoxin A , which block the nerve signals to the muscle in which it was injected. This stops the muscles from being able to contract, smoothing out unwanted lines and wrinkles. These injectables can be used to:

  • Erase lines between the eyebrows (treat the “11’s”/ “angry 11’s”) / moderate to severe glabella lines- Approved Use
  • Smooth lines on the forehead (“newspaper lines”)
  • Provide a brow arch/ brow lift
  • Diminish lines around the eyes / lateral canthal lines (“crow’s feet”).
  • Smooth out lines across the nose “bunny lines”
  • Diminish the appearance of neck bands; provide a “Nefertiti neck lift”
  • Soften the appearance of skin dimpling on the chin, known as the “apple dumpling chin”.
  • Modify a gummy smile by bringing the top lip down to conceal the gums
  • Lip flip – making the lips poutier, appearing larger
  • Decrease the look of a downturned “sad” smile.
  • Smooth lines around the mouth “smoker’s lines”
  • Jaw slimming/ facial shaping effect
  • Slightly lift the tip of the nose
  • Reduce bulky trapezius muscles “traptox / trap-tox” to create a more elongated neck appearance

The main difference among BOTOX® , Dysport® , Xeomin® and Nuceiva® is in their formulation of protein and neurotoxin quantity, which influences how much the product will spread, and how quickly results can be seen, and sometimes the duration of the effect. While BOTOX® is formulated with an accompanying protein and may show results in as early as 2 days, Xeomin® does not contain any accompanying protein and may exhibit results in 2 – 4 days.  Dysport® is a larger protein that can show results as early as 24 hours after treatment.  Nuceiva® is the “Newtox ” with a protein similar to that of BOTOX®, and for some patients might provide longer lasting results. Rest assured, the options will be discussed with you at your appointment and you will know exactly which product will be used to give you your best results.

BOTOX®/DYSPORT®/ XEOMIN®/ NUCEIVA® TREATMENT WITH DR. BEACH

BOTOX® , Dysport ®, Xeomin® or Nuceiva® injections yield beautiful results when applied by our dermatologist who understands the underlying musculature anatomy and the interplay between facial contractions, facial proportions, and facial volume. The injection feels like a small pinch. A very thin needle is used to inject small amounts of the product ( onabotulinum toxin type A; abobotulinumtoxin A;  incobotulinumtoxin A; prababotulinumtoxin A) into the targeted areas. The number of injections needed will depend on the strength of the contracting muscles, the extent of your wrinkles, your facial features, and your desired result. Usually, treatment of multiple areas takes around 15 minutes to complete.  After treatment, there is hardly any down-time, but we suggest avoiding heavy exercise, alcohol intake the same-day or rubbing your face (all of these activities can cause bruising).

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX®/DYSPORT®/ XEOMIN®/NUCEIVA®?

When you have wrinkles or lines that make you appear tired, angry, or look older than you feel, you can benefit from BOTOX® /Dysport®/ Xeomin® /Nuceiva® treatment.  The best way to determine if this treatment is right for you is to schedule an in-person consultation.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER BOTOX®/DYSPORT®/ XEOMIN®/NUCEIVA® TREATMENT?

Following BOTOX® , Dysport®,  Xeomin® or Nuceiva® injections, you can generally return to your everyday routine.   However, avoiding both alcohol and strenuous exercise will help to avoid bruising that same day.  Mild redness or swelling may occur, which will dissipate within an hour or two. It is important that you do not massage or rub the treated areas, as this may cause the product to spread to other areas of the face.  Results can often be seen within two days, though it may take up to two weeks for full results to become apparent. Results often last 3-4 months before touch-up injections are needed. If injections are discontinued, your wrinkles and lines will gradually return. At DermAtelier on Avenueyou will receive an after-treatment information sheet to help you understand after-procedure care and protocol.
