What is it?
- Low Level Laser Therapy as a Lightweight helmet that has cold coherent-light diodes
- These lights help stimulate hair growth by working at the base of the hair follicle. It is a hands-free device that allows you to do light activity, like reading, while receiving treatment
Who is the ideal candidate?
- The ideal candidate for this therapy has short hair (e.g. no longer than a few inches) with non scarring hair loss known as “Androgenetic Alopecia” or patterned hair loss
- It can also treat other forms of hair loss such as Post Chemotherapy-induced alopecia and Telogen Effluvium
How much time is required to see results?
- Benefit may be noted around 6 months of use based on the clinical studies of this helmet
What are the benefits?
- This treatment may slow down the rate of hair shed, help thicken existing hairs, help stimulate new hair growth.
- It has a lack of systemic side effects that can occur with pills or medications like finasteride or dutasteride such as headache, low sex drive, breast tissue, ejaculation problems.
What are the risks?
- During the first few weeks of treatment, you may experience tingling, itch, mild headache
- Starting directly at the light or its reflection of the mirror can harm one’s eyes
- Placing the device near water may result in electrocution
Who should not use the device?
- It should not be used on wet hair, or in pregnant or breast-feeding individuals. It should be avoided if you have a skin cancer of the scalp or had a prior scalp cancer
How does it get used?
- You are provided with a private room in the office for your treatment. You shampoo your scalp and dry hair prior to treatment. The hair itself can be damp or dry
- Expose the area of the scalp most affected by hair loss to enable light to access it and continue the session for 20 minutes. After the session, hair products can be applied to the hair
- Repeat for a 2nd session that same week
